What happened
Participants reactivated an episodic memory of a sad story while a facial posture induced an unconscious smile. Negative evaluation of the story fell versus the initial rating and versus a control posture. Difficulty of the pen task was higher in the smile group, so the effect is not explained by the face feeling pleasant. Details of the story were remembered as well as in controls.
Why it matters
Reconsolidation-style update is usually discussed with drugs or competing tasks. Here a bodily signal changed valence, not the record. The 2-minute delay is a hard limit: this is not evidence of a durable rewrite.
