Agreeing to these terms

PaperFren is operated by the NoteFren team (“we”, “us”). By using PaperFren or creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live, or have a parent or guardian’s permission.

What PaperFren is, and is not

PaperFren explains selected open-access research, links to the original sources, and helps you follow when evidence on a question changes. It is a reading and research aid. It is not medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for reading the original paper or consulting a qualified professional.

Explanations, study cards, quizzes, and answers are produced with AI assistance and can contain errors or omissions. Evidence labels describe the studies we linked; they are not a probability that a claim is true. Radar covers the sources described on its page, not the whole literature. Please check anything important against the source, and tell us about mistakes.

Your account

Give accurate information when you sign up, keep your password private, and tell us if you think someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for activity on your account. One person per account; do not share a paid account or resell access.

Plans, trials, and billing

PaperFren has a free plan and paid plans, described on the pricing page. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel. Eligible accounts can start a 14-day trial; if you do not cancel before it ends, the plan you chose starts and is charged.

You can cancel at any time from Settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; you keep paid features until the end of the period you already paid for. Payments are not refunded for partial periods, except where the law requires otherwise. If you think you were charged in error, write to us and we will look at it.

Student pricing is for students with a school email address. We may ask for further proof and move an account that does not qualify to the standard price. We may change prices or plan limits; changes to a paid plan take effect at your next renewal, and we will tell you in advance.

Your content

You keep ownership of what you upload or write, such as PDFs, notes, projects, and questions. You give us permission to store, process, and display that content only as needed to provide PaperFren to you, for example extracting text from an upload so Ask can search it. Uploads are private to your account.

Only upload material you have the right to use. Do not upload other people’s confidential or sensitive personal information, and do not use PaperFren to distribute copyrighted papers you are not allowed to share.

Acceptable use

Do not:

• break the law or infringe anyone’s rights;
• scrape, bulk download, or systematically copy PaperFren content, or use it to build a competing dataset or train AI models, except through features we provide for that purpose;
• probe, overload, or bypass the security, rate limits, or plan limits of the service;
• upload malware or anything designed to harm the service or other users;
• misrepresent PaperFren explanations as the findings or words of a paper’s authors.

Our content and the research we link to

PaperFren’s explanations, design, software, and branding belong to us. You may read, quote short passages with a link back, and use study materials for your own learning. Research papers belong to their authors and publishers and are shown under their own licenses; follow those licenses when you reuse them. PaperFren does not sell access to paywalled papers.

If you believe something on PaperFren infringes your copyright, send the page link and details to info@notefren.app and we will respond promptly.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Deleting it cancels any paid plan immediately, without a refund for the rest of the current period, and permanently removes your data. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other users at risk, and where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first. We may change or discontinue features; if we shut down a paid service, we will refund the unused part of your current period.

Disclaimers

PaperFren is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its explanations, evidence labels, alerts, or answers are accurate, complete, or current.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, or opportunities, arising from your use of PaperFren. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US$50. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you; nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date above and, for material changes, tell you by email or in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use PaperFren after that means you accept the new terms.
