Among 10 strains, L. delbrueckii EPS5 had top yield and strong cytotoxicity (IC50 ~7.9–10.7 mg/ml) plus fibroblast-supportive effects.
Key findings
EPS yields 174.9–295.4 mg/l; DPPH scavenging 33.3–77% at 20 mg/ml; EPS5 most cytotoxic to MCF7/CaCo2/HepG2 and increased hPDLFC viability.
Methodology
Isolated EPS from LAB/Bb supernatants and tested concentration-dependent antioxidant, MTT antitumor, and human periodontal ligament fibroblast assays.
Limitations
In vitro only—does not prove clinical cancer therapy or safe replacement of chemotherapeutics.
