Open access · cc by · source: Europe PMC
Among 11.3 million UK primary-care patients, overall IBD incidence was high; rates fell in adults >40 but rose ~94% in adolescents 10–16 years.

Key findings
22,560 incident IBD cases (8077 CD; 12,369 UC). Crude incidence per 100,000 person-years: IBD 28.6, CD 10.2, UC 15.7. Incidence fell in >40s (37.8→23.6) but rose in ages 10–16 (13.1→25.4). 2018 prevalence per 100,000: IBD 725, CD 276, UC 397.
Methodology
Analyzed IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD) from 2000–2018 for recorded IBD diagnoses, estimating crude incidence of IBD/CD/UC and age-specific temporal trends plus 31 Dec 2018 point prevalence.
Limitations
Primary-care codes without secondary-care histology/endoscopy confirmation may misclassify some cases; causes of adolescent rise remain unexplained.
