Can ACC-deaminase bacteria rescue beans from salt stress?
Two garlic-rhizosphere isolates (A. aneurinilyticus ACC02 and Paenibacillus ACC06) cut stress ethylene ~60% and boosted French bean growth traits under salinity when applied as a consortium.

ACC Deaminase Producing Bacteria With Multifarious Plant Growth Promoting Traits Alleviates Salinity Stress in French Bean (<i>Phaseolus vulgaris</i>) Plants
What they did
Screened garlic rhizosphere isolates for ACC deaminase and other PGP traits, identified ACC02/ACC06 by 16S, then tested seed bacterization consortia on French bean under non-saline and saline pot conditions.
What they found
Two of six isolates made >~1500 nmol α-ketobutyrate mg protein⁻¹ h⁻¹ and other PGP activities; tolerated 6% NaCl and −0.73 MPa drought in vitro. Consortium lowered stress ethylene ~60% and increased root length 110%, shoot fresh weight 255%, shoot biomass 425%, chlorophyll ~57%, among other gains under salinity.
The limits
What it doesn't show
Pot-trial gains may not translate to field agronomy or other crops; isolate performance can depend on soil microbiome and salt regime.
Key terms
