Structured fields used in claim comparison tables when every cited study has a complete layer.

What they did

Analyzed IQVIA Medical Research Data (IMRD) from 2000–2018 for recorded IBD diagnoses, estimating crude incidence of IBD/CD/UC and age-specific temporal trends plus 31 Dec 2018 point prevalence.

What they found

22,560 incident IBD cases (8077 CD; 12,369 UC). Crude incidence per 100,000 person-years: IBD 28.6, CD 10.2, UC 15.7. Incidence fell in >40s (37.8→23.6) but rose in ages 10–16 (13.1→25.4). 2018 prevalence per 100,000: IBD 725, CD 276, UC 397.

The limits

What it doesn't show

Primary-care codes without secondary-care histology/endoscopy confirmation may misclassify some cases; causes of adolescent rise remain unexplained.

Key terms

Incidence
New diagnoses per person-time.
Point prevalence
Proportion living with disease on a date.
IMRD
IQVIA Medical Research Data UK primary-care database.
CD/UC
Crohn’s disease / ulcerative colitis.
IBDU
IBD unclassified when CD vs UC unclear.
