A MOF that releases CO with visible light

Open paper intelligence

Structured fields used in claim comparison tables when every cited study has a complete layer.

What they did

Authors immobilized photoactive manganese carbonyls in UiO-67-type bpy MOFs, tuned crystal size by coordination modulation, quantified CO with a trace-gas analyzer, and grew cells on a polymer film of the MOF to watch intracellular CO after irradiation.

What they found

Low-intensity visible light triggers controllable CO release. Crystal size from 260 nm to 1 mm changes loading and photoefficiency. Immobilized particles deliver CO into cells, addressing the localization problem of molecular photoCORMs.

The limits

What it doesn't show

NIR-triggered deep-tissue delivery and a therapeutic in vivo inflammation model are proposed, not completed; CO is still a toxic gas if mis-dosed.

Key terms

PhotoCORM / CORF
Photoactive CO-releasing molecule or framework that stores CO until light hits.
