Interviews in Wales’s most deprived areas show socio-environmental barriers—not just knowledge—shape delayed cancer symptom presentation.

Participants often attributed non-specific symptoms to comorbidity, held fatalistic beliefs, and faced community/social barriers; authors conclude presentation behaviour is socio-environmentally shaped.
Methodology
Researchers interviewed 30 adults from the most deprived Welsh areas about cancer symptom experiences and timing of presentation, analysing themes with a capability–opportunity–motivation lens.
Limitations
Qualitative sample cannot quantify how much delay each barrier causes population-wide.
