Key findings

Onshore LIG strandplains sit about +3 to +9 m while offshore LIG reefs are 5–20 m below modern sea level. Fine-resolution reef isostasy shifts relative sea level by at most 0.34 m (coarse loads 1.45 m). Dynamic topography can uplift the continent up to 10 m and subside the shelf 5–10 m since the LIG, dominating the tilt.

Methodology

The authors compiled Last Interglacial reef and strandplain elevations in Queensland, then modelled post-125 ka vertical motion from reef isostasy (1 km 3D vs coarse 1D loads), glacial isostatic adjustment, and 15 dynamic-topography Earth models.

Limitations

Dynamic-topography grids are ~200 km, too coarse to match local peaks. GIA ice histories remain uncertain. Strandplain ages are less precise than U-series reef dates. The study does not provide a new global mean LIG sea-level number.
