Can blocking host protein on catheters prevent CAUTI?

Liquid-infused silicone catheters reduced host-protein deposition (~6.5-fold for secreted proteins) and lowered microbial colonization and dissemination in a mouse CAUTI model.

Fg benefits E. faecalis, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, A. baumannii, and C. albicans. LIS catheters reduced protein deposition and decreased colonization on catheters, in bladders, and dissemination; other host-secreted proteins were ~6.5-fold lower than unmodified catheters.
Methodology
Showed fibrinogen deposition aids multiple uropathogens, then tested liquid-infused silicone catheters in mouse CAUTI to cut host-protein scaffolds and measured colonization plus surface proteomics.
Limitations
Mouse CAUTI efficacy is not yet a human clinical trial; durability, biocompatibility, and real-world infection rates remain to be proven.
