In BC’s free school HPV program, about 65% of surveyed parents reported first-dose receipt—lower than concurrent hepatitis B and meningitis C consent rates.
Key findings
2,025 parents responded (50.2%); 65.1% reported HPV dose 1 vs ~88% hepatitis B and ~86% meningitis C consent in the same program, showing residual hesitancy despite free access.
Methodology
Researchers telephoned a random sample of parents of grade-6 girls eligible for publicly funded school HPV vaccination and analyzed factors associated with vaccine receipt.
Limitations
Self-reported receipt may misclassify doses, and two health areas lacking the registry were excluded.
