Key findings
MEP was the most abundant metabolite. Several LMWP metabolites (MMP, MiBP, MnBP) associated positively with GPx and TBARS, whereas HMWP MiNP associated negatively. The WQS index associated with lower GSH (β = −30.089) and GSSG (β = −19.591); MEHP and MECPP dominated the GSH mixture.
Methodology
GraMo surgery patients had 32 serum phthalate metabolites measured by LC–MS/MS and nine oxidative-stress biomarkers assayed in adipose; robust regression and weighted quantile sum (WQS) mixture models were fit.
Limitations
Cross-sectional surgery sample cannot establish temporality; adipose 8OHdG was only available for 112 people; short-lived phthalates make a single serum sample a noisy exposure metric.
